The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan, the 5th Mughal Emperor
in memory of his beloved queen, Mumtaz Mahal in the 17th
century. Taj Mahal, a beauty in white marble, stands serene
and perfect in its garden of cypresses & reflecting pools on
the bank of river Yamuna. It was recently ranked one of the
modern seven wonders of the world.
Named after Afghan ruler Sikandar Lodhi, Sikandra today
houses Akbar`s mausoleum. The construction of the mausoleum
was started by Akbar himself during his own life time and it
was completed by his son and successor Jahangir.
Fatehpur Sikri, was built by emperor Akbar in 1569 and was
abandoned after 15 years due to scarcity of water. See the
graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid, tomb of Salim
Chisti & Panch Mahal.
